Welcome
Victoria University Student Union (VUSU) is the peak body representing and supporting all students at Victoria University, Melbourne, Australia.
The stated objectives of VUSU are to provide a range of representation and general services to a student population of approximately 50,000 across all campuses and all educational disciplines of the university.
VUSU’s motto is one of “fun and representation” whilst the faces and theme for 2009 will be “Mr.VU and Ms.SU”. Have a great year ahead.
VUSU Update
The introduction of Mr.VU and Ms.SU (VUSU)
The brainchild of Simon Walliker, Mr VU and Ms Su was first introduced in late 2006 as an induction tool in an effort to combat the confusion between VSU laws and VUSU (Voluntary Student Unionism and Victoria University Student Union). Skip forward to early 2009 and a different problem faced the organisation, confusion between VUSA and VUSU (during 2008 VUSU was referred to as VUSA, however never registered the name, hence we remain VUSU).
Given this second round of confusion it was thought why not introduce Mr Vu and Ms Su as real characters to the world at large. From here Simon went to the drawing board mapping out his concepts, with the next step finding a photographer. Abby a friend of VUSU rose to the occasion. In working with instructor Jenny Northam of the VU modelling course, we managed to find after a long search Mr Vu (Adrian Yeak) and Ms Su (Melinda Carr).
For more information read SEED Magazine Issue 1/2009 out February 16th at a VU Campus near you.
VUSU Advantage Memberships
You may ask what the real benefits of becoming a VUSU Advantage Member are. This is where we tell you upon signing up you receive a membership card, as well as a list of places the card is available. We have listened, in the past our membership programs have ignored the Western Suburbs, so this year we are going it alone.
What do I get?
Becoming a VUSU Advantage Member entitles you to 10% discount on all VUSU run trips, event, and activities; a free T-shirt (while stocks last); as well as 5% on all health food for sale on VU campuses (still under negotiation); and a further 5% on all books excluding textbooks (still under negotiation). All this and more coming soon for the sum total of $20 plus p&h.
Why it is important?
Thanks to the VSU laws, it has become harder for university student union organisations to get funding. To maintain our peak position in student representation, and to offer such high standards, we need you their student body to show some support. At $20 plus p&h a year the discounts gained outdo the costs of joining, so come on in to your local Student Service Centre, or order it on online.
